Cascade
is a scenic mountain town located in the Pikes Peak foothills just ten miles northwest from Colorado Springs. Named for its' numerous waterfalls, Cascade welcomes the more half-million people who visit the Pikes Peak area every year. The town of Cascade is home to several historic businesses like the Eastholme Inn, an 1885 Victorian hotel, where Dwight and Mamie Eisenhower once stayed. Two of the main attractions in town are perfect for families. Santas Workshop lets children experience the magic of Christmas year round and tours of the Myers' Gourmet Popcorn Factory, in operation since 1925, serves up popcorn in flavors like Kettle Korn, Mega Chocolate, Pizza, and even Chicken Soup. Hiking trails to local waterfalls include the Heizer Trail in Cascade Community Park and the Catamount Trail in Green Mountain Falls. Nearby attractions include the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, the Manitou Springs, home to cliff dwellings, and the Pikes Peak Cog Railway, the highest train in the nation. Horseback riding tours are available through the stunning Garden of the Gods, which is located just down the road from Cascade. For culture, nearby Colorado Springs offers its' own symphony and performing arts center, as well as fine dining and shopping.

Cascade Weather & Climate

Central Colorado has a more complex climate than most states in the United States. Even places a few miles apart can experience entirely different weather. The valleys are classified as a semi-arid, continental climate, which becomes a mountain or alpine climate at higher elevations. Humid microclimates may also exist in some places. Abundant sunshine and low humidity is typical in all areas. Summers are mild, and thunderstorms can cause a sudden drop in temperature. Winters are cold and snowy, especially in the higher elevations of the Rocky Mountains. Solar radiation penetrates the thin atmosphere high in the mountains, which results in very pleasant temperatures during the winter. This is why skiers are often pictured in very light clothing, even though they're surrounded by snow.
