Mountain-Village
is a picturesque town nestled high in the San Juan Mountains at 9,500 feet above sea level, surrounded on all sides by imposing jagged mountain peaks. The village is linked to the town of Telluride by a spectacular 13-minute gondola ride. This scenic attraction serves as public transportation, as well as providing free access to hiking and biking trails. Mountain Village is considered Telluride's "younger, yet swankier" sister hamlet. Called "A Modern European Alpine Village," Mountain Village offers world-renowned skiing and golf, shopping in stylish boutiques, incredible dining, luxurious lodging and world class spa facilities. One of the most popular attractions in Mountain Village is Adventure Rock in the Conference Center Plaza, a massive boulder that is available to climbers of all abilities. Other recreational activities include mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, backcountry tours, fly-fishing and snowshoeing and dog sledding. Every Wednesday evening, July through September, free musical concerts are offered at the Mountain Village Town Square. At the heart of the village is the 92-acre pedestrian center known as the "Mountain Village Core," which is the recreational and social activity center of the town, with sports shops, jewelry, gifts, apparel, banks, restaurants, a market and more. Neighboring Telluride has a more rustic appeal and is a delightful mix of boutiques, art galleries, gourmet restaurants and historic buildings in an area that has been designated a National Historic Landmark District.

Mountain Village Weather & Climate

Southwest Colorado has a four-season alpine climate. This region is on the Western Slope of the Continental Divide at 7,200 feet above sea level. The combination of high desert plateau and Rocky Mountains to the north and east create an unusually mild climate. Temperatures here are much cooler in the summer than most of the surrounding southwestern United States. The area is also blessed with 300 days of sunshine per year. The climate of Colorado, in general, is difficult to describe because it varies so widely from place to place. The climate of any particular place in this region is profoundly affected by differences in elevation, and to a lesser degree, by the orientation of mountain ranges and valleys and wind direction. Wide variations occur within short distances.
